Braces Better Than Invisalign, A beautiful smile opens doors. Everybody wants .. no needs .. a beautiful smile. Your pearly whites are the window to your world, and they are the first thing that most people notice when they meet you for the first time. The constant drive for a better smile is not new, but in the past few years, it has increased exponentially. For that reason, braces are now more in demand than ever.
But there is a constant bump in the highway of braces, and that is their looks. Most people – especially adults- would simply refuse a mouth full of metallic braces, and would rather have crooked teeth that wear metallic braces for a long time. This dilemma has led to the appearance of one of the greatest technologies in modern dentistry .. Invisalign.
What is Invisalign?
Technology was created to solve all problems of metallic braces. Invisalign consists of a number of sets of plastic, transparent and nearly invisible molds called aligners. These aligners put pressure on the teeth to move them where we need them.
As you can imagine, a plastic mold looks much better than metal braces. You can also remove the aligners at will, making teeth cleaning much easier. Aligners are also computer made, so incredibly accurate and reduce the treatment time significantly.
Are braces better than Invisalign?
The benefits of Invisalign are countless. That being said, it also has its limitations. Invisalign can fix most problems related to the arrangement of teeth. Whether crooked teeth, spaced teeth, overbites, or otherwise, Invisalign is the answer. However, when there is a problem with the jawbones, that’s where Invisalign draws a line. Invisalign can easily move teeth, but can’t shape bone, unlike traditional braces.
This means that when the problem originates from the teeth themselves, you have the choice between traditional braces and Invisalign, but if the underlying bone structure is the problem (like when your upper jaw is jutting too far forward, or your lower jaw is larger than the upper one), the only choice becomes traditional braces, and sometimes even surgery is needed to correct the jawbones.
What can I do if I want to fix my teeth, and Invisalign won’t work for me?
If you decided to take the leap into the world of braces, there are many options to consider. Invisalign should be the number one choice if your case permits, but if traditional braces are the only option, then consider clear braces or even lingual braces.
Clear braces are just like metallic braces, only the brackets are plastic and transparent. Their looks are far better than metallic braces and they do just the same amount of work. Lingual braces are also an option. This recent technique was developed a few years ago, where the brackets are placed on the inside of your teeth rather than the outside. Of course, the looks are improved, but they are quite uncomfortable for the tongue.
In the world of orthodontics, there is no right or wrong. Every case is different and every patient needs a specific treatment plan. Braces are ugly but they can be used for almost every case, are braces better than Invisalign?
Only your orthodontist can answer that.
